IMPORTANCE OF ETHICAL VALUES #LIFE MATTERS
Ethics
in our culture plays crucial and important role as far as society is concerned.
We are part and parcel of society, be it science, technology, arts, humanity or
any other discipline. I would like to refer to the most regarded and popular
book that is widely read and appreciated in India (Tulsi’s Ramcharitmanas).
Tulsi has very rightly emphasized the role and importance of ethical code of
conduct in life. The moment, we deviate from the right path and follow the
wrong one for petty, selfish consideration, we become unethical and face
unhealthy consequences. In the very beginning we find kaikayi following
unethical mode to fulfil her selfish consideration in order to get throne to
her son Bharta. The consequences which pursue kaikaiyi’s fulfilment of wish,
are not ethical. Rama gets banishment for 14 years in order to fulfil the wish
of his mother Kaikaiyi & we very well visualize other consequences that
follow due to the single unethical incident of wish fulfilment. Tulsi Das has
very rightly put emphasis in this holy book on following the right path which
not only make us happy but others also have the same impact if we properly
follow these code of life.
Even
the foolish and wicked people can be improved if they are in the company of
right and true person. This is what we can perceive and lead the wrong doer on
the right ethical path that can improve the person concerned.
The
whole Ramcharitmanas is replete with teaching of ethical ways of behaviour
which can make life happy and successful.
Indians
worship gods and goddesses in the very beginning of any work in order to have
their blessing as part of culture and tradition, as we worship mother Saraswati
in the temple of knowledge and learning.
This is how we devote ourselves to the super powers who give us strength,
inspiration, power and everything else. In this way, we have a sense of
surrender to the omniscient powers that help us in many ways and we fulfil our
duties and are afraid of doing anything wrong as we have a sense of fear that
anything wrong is punishable in the philosophical and religious sense.
Social
reformers like Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda, Swami Dayanand etc.. left
indelible impression on everybody as all these saintly figures followed the
path of suffering humanity. They rose above the common man due to the fact that
they never surrendered themselves before anything unethical.
